Authentic Roasted Japanese Green Tea, sourced from Uji, Kyoto. Comforting roasted aroma, natural sweetness and an exceptionally smooth finish. Naturally low in caffeine — a tea made for slowing down. 30g pouch · approx. 15 cups.
Our Premium Hōjicha powder is sourced from Uji, Kyoto — the birthplace of Japan's most revered teas, where centuries of craftsmanship and an uncompromising respect for nature have shaped some of the world's finest harvests. While Uji is celebrated for its matcha, authentic Uji hōjicha remains remarkably rare, produced only in limited quantities by artisans who understand that refinement lies in restraint.
It carries a warm chestnut hue, the unmistakable signature of a patient, masterful roast. As it meets water, an aroma unfolds with remarkable grace — roasted hazelnuts, toasted almonds, soft caramel and dark cocoa, wrapped in the gentle woodsmoke of a slow fire and the comforting warmth of freshly baked grain. It is at once familiar and profoundly sophisticated.
The first sip is velvety and composed. Gentle notes of roasted nuts and buttery caramel give way to a chocolatey, earthy depth, with a soft curl of smoke that lingers effortlessly and never turns bitter. There is richness without heaviness, warmth without intensity, and a finish that stays clean, smooth and quietly memorable.
Stone-ground to an exceptionally fine powder, it whisks into a beautifully silky cup and lends itself equally well to a traditional preparation or an indulgent hōjicha latte, where its nuanced character remains beautifully intact. It is just as at home in baking and desserts, where its roasted depth carries beautifully through milk, butter and chocolate. This is not simply hōjicha — it is one of Japan's rarest tea traditions, thoughtfully sourced for those who appreciate craftsmanship in its purest form.
Brewing Tips
We recommend enjoying this hōjicha as a warm brew — the traditional way — though it also makes delicious lattes and works beautifully in cooking and baking.
For a warm brew
- Heat 200 ml of water to 80–85°C (avoid boiling water).
- Add 1 teaspoon (2 g) of Premium Hōjicha Powder to a bowl or mug.
- Pour in a small amount of the hot water and whisk until smooth, with no lumps.
- Add the remaining water and whisk briskly in a zigzag motion until silky and well blended.
- Sip slowly and enjoy the warm, roasted aroma and naturally smooth, mellow flavour.
For a cold hōjicha latte
- Add 1 teaspoon (2 g) of Premium Hōjicha Powder to a bowl or glass.
- Pour in 30–40 ml of warm water (80–85°C) and whisk until completely smooth and lump-free.
- Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
- Pour in 180–200 ml of cold milk of your choice (dairy, oat, almond or soy all work beautifully).
- Gently pour the whisked hōjicha over the milk.
- Stir before drinking, or leave it layered for an elegant café-style presentation.
- Sweeten with honey, maple syrup or your preferred sweetener if desired, and enjoy immediately.
