No two pieces leave the kiln looking exactly the same.
The Sawayaka Yohen Kyusu owes its character to fire itself.
Its finish is created through yōhen (窯変), a natural kiln transformation in which subtle variations in heat, atmosphere, and mineral interaction during firing create unique colour transitions across the clay.
The result is a striking gradient that moves from deep charcoal black at the shoulder to warm earthy brown below. These effects cannot be precisely controlled or repeated. The artisan shapes the vessel; the kiln completes the work.
At 220ml, this kyusu is perfectly suited to a focused tea session for one or a carefully shared brew for two. Its fine stainless-steel mesh filter ensures a clean, dependable pour while allowing the full character of the tea to emerge.
Every piece is unique, carrying within it the quiet unpredictability that makes traditional kiln-fired ceramics so deeply valued.
